The band was founded in 1982, as the name suggests. Opus 82 has been an elite band in the national championship for the last few years, and in 2005 it held the position of 5th best concert band in Norway. Norway has a very strong symphonic band tradition, with hundreds of school bands and amateur concert bands. Opus 82 aims to be an alternative for the more ambitious young amateur musicians. It should be a bit challenging, but also musically inspiring, to play in the band. Opus 82 is a pure concert band—we have never marched and probably never will! This has been part of our statutes since the foundation, and is one thing that differentiates us from most other concert bands in Norway. Opus 82 currently has about 45 players, most of them between 20 and 40 years old. The band consists of eager and skillful amateurs, music teachers, and students from the metropolitan area of Oslo and Akershus. Common for all members is that we seek the musical challenges found in elite concert band repertoire. Our repertoire spans from arranged classicals via light entertainment music to original wind band compositions. The band always tries to find exciting new repertoire and concert ideas. We like to create concept concerts with a consistent theme and a form that is not necessarily traditional. To accomplish this we often cooperate with other cultural actors, both professionals and amateurs. Rune Halvorsen Opus 82 is conducted by Rune André Halvorsen. Rune Halvorsen is a musician and conductor from Greåker in Østfold. He is currently in his 6th year as solo timpanist in the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Before this he has been a musician in Stockholm, Bergen, Trondheim and Halden. Since 1997 Rune has also been a conductor. His teachers in Norway has been John Dalene, Ingar Bergby and Eivind Aaland. Since 2002 he has also been studying with Antoni Ros Marba and Jordi Mora in Barcelona, Spain. Rune is now conducting Opus 82 and Kolbotn concert band. Previous experience includes Greåker concert band (1997-2003), Borg symphonic orchestra (1999-2000) and as conductor and musical director for the musical "Himmelstigen" in Sarpsborg in 2000 and 2001, with music composed by Guttorm Guttormsen. Ann-Cathrin Tessnes is a mezzo soprano who will be a soloist with Opus 82 at our concerts in China. Some facts about her: Originally from Vågå in Gudbrandsdalen but now lives in Asker outside Oslo. Educated in vocal pedagogics at Østlandets Musikkonservatorium. Diploma in singing from Norwegian Academy of Music Freelance singer with an all-round repertoir since 1992. Performed as soloist in concerts with choirs, symphonic bands or orchestras, both within the classical repertoir and newer works. Participated in several scene productions in different genres - traditional opera (e.g. Opportunity Makes the Thief), contemporary opera (e.g. Heaven ablaze in his breast (Weir) and musicals at several capital scenes in Norway (e.g. Godspell, Elvira Madigan, Albertine og Kristianiabohemene). Extensive touring for Rikskonsertene since 1992, several hundred concerts especially for children and youths. Soloist in several first performances of new works, e.g. The silver cantate (Schwartz/Hauge), Ketil Bjørnstad's rock oratorium OLD at the Vestfold music festival 2000 and Tuomo Haapalas work written for Rikskonsertene's Lydyngel festival in Bergen 2000. Participated on several CDs, e.g. Ketil Bjørnstads OLD, Sven Lundestad's Trivium and various folk music productions such as Stormti and Tidlause tonar (timeless tones). Participated in productions for radio and television in Norway and France. Performed as soloist with Opus 82 at several other occasions, e.g. Chess and Disney concerts. Program Part 1 1.
